Happy Mother's Day
We had an interesting Mother's Day yesterday. We probably could have renamed it "Push Mommy's Buttons" Day. Here are the two biggest gems that Abbie graced me with:
First, she told me that a Mamma is someone who wants to be alone all the time. I guess this comes from the fact that anytime Chad tries to encourage Abbie to give me a gift it is always the gift of time to myself. Thus, I suppose that she has concluded that I am always trying to get away from her. On some level she is correct - I do appreciate time to myself. However, clearly this comment threw me into all sorts of torment about how I am shaping her self-esteem, what messages I am sending her, etc. The usual fun Mommy stuff.
Second, Abbie's big thing lately is to tell everyone that they're nuts. Chad and I must have heard at least 50 times yesterday that we were nuts. After about the 17th time I said, "Well, too bad that I'm nuts because I'm the only Mommy you've got, so you're just going to have to live with it." To this she replied, "No, Daddy could marry another lady and then she would be my Mommy." Nice. I just very matter of factly told her that if Daddy married another lady then that lady would be her step-Mommy and that I would still be her Mommy and that she would still be stuck with me.
As you can see, she sure does give us a run for our money. If she were 15, rather than 3, I would be less concerned. :)

oh dear, that is "nuts". Funny how kids get stuck on a word or phrase and the more it annoys us the more they find the need to continue.
I can relate to needing time to myself, could use that here and I don't even have children!
Hannah and Abbie sound an awful lot alike. Hannah comes up with very similar zingers. She is 6, but she's been giving us a run for the money since well before Abbie's age. I fear greatly for her teen years....
