Summer "Break"

May was an eventful month. We helped Abbie move from the dorms into her first apartment, a one-bedroom place very close to campus. It also gave us the chance to meet Alden, who joined us for dinner. He was very enjoyable, and he and Abbie seemed to have a good rapport. He is spending five weeks in Israel this summer, but he and Abbie seem to talk all the time.

It was a tough semester, but she weathered it about as well as can be expected. She has her classes picked out for the fall semester and is excited about the lineup. She is considering declaring a neuroscience major, and she plans to take her first neuroscience class this fall, which will help her make an informed decision.

Abbie arrived back home mid-month and spent two weeks at my house, which meant she was home for Mother's Day. She was also at home to keep Emily company while I was away on work-related travel. It also gave us a chance to cook together, which I tend to do less of when she's not around to help me eat what I've made.

She has now been in Minnesota for about a week and is as busy as ever. Her summer class is going strong; she has also started working two jobs — one at Walgreens and the other as an environmental canvasser. The canvassing job sounds brutal, but they made her a field manager (which she can use as leadership experience), and she seems to like the people and the cause. In the end, I don't think the summer break will be much of a break for her, but hopefully it will give her sufficient spending money during the school year.
