Beer Bike 2025

One of the best-loved annual traditions at Rice is the beer bike relay race - a competition between the residential colleges (you can read more here: https://alumni.rice.edu/about-beer-bike). From the very beginning, Abbie has said that she wanted to race for her college's team. The big day arrived a few weeks ago. She said her college's performance was mid, but her individual performance went really well.

It's a small photo, but that is her in the top panel above. She got a nice shoutout after the race when one of the people from her college posted highlights and said, "Our women's team popped the f*ck off. That was seriously so exciting. Y'all genuinely had me in tears. Big shoutout to Abbie P. turning to the stands and giving us the biggest grin as she overtook two bikers right in front of us, literally so badass holy crap." As you can tell, it was a great event.

I think she is really glad she did it, but it is also good to have it behind her because the work in her classes has been really heavy with the end of the semester coming soon. Classes ended Friday and many of her final assignments are done, but there is still a big math test this coming Saturday.

She will be living off campus next year and her lease starts May 1st, so she is also focused on getting her dorm room packed up and moved over to her apartment. We have rented a U-Haul and will be bringing her a bed, dresser, desk, and TV this coming weekend. We will also help her move a couch that she is getting from someone. That will get her started.

She won't have much time to relax, though, as she is taking a 7-week organic chemistry class this summer, which starts May 12th and meets three times per week. Fortunately, it is online, so she can still spend her summer in the cooler MN weather.
