She's Driving (on her own)!
Great progress in the past month - Abbie took her road test and passed! Then, we finally got into the DMV and got her actual license last week. Lucky for her, I bought a new car and gave her my old car to drive. She is definitely enjoying the long-awaited freedom and is pitching in by driving Emily to and from school every day. It has been a good change for both of us - easier on me and fun for her.
Abbie had a good holiday season, I think. Christmas went by rather quickly, followed by three nights visiting Greg & Elizabeth, and then four nights visiting Eleanor (which included a New Years Eve party). Now is the toughest part of the school year. The stretch between the end of winter break and spring break is a long one. This coming weekend is a 3-day weekend, though, and there may be other little breaks along the way.
Other than school, Abbie continues to think about getting a part-time job. She applied to Starbucks, but they are very slow about calling people for interviews, etc. She is also thinking about what she is going to do this summer, but it will be awhile before that is settled.
In the nearer term, we are looking forward to having a French exchange student stay with us for a week in February. Now that Abbie is not taking French classes this year, having an exchange student will be a good opportunity for her to brush up on her speaking skills.
