A Girl and Her Dog

Yup, we did it. We finally pulled the trigger on getting the kids a dog. This sweet little guy is Woofy. He came with the name "Mr. Fox" but he didn't respond to it, and it wasn't really working for us, so when Emily started calling him "Woofy" it just stuck. He is a Pomeranian mix that we rescued from the local shelter. They say that he is about 5 years old, and he is very well-behaved, very gentle with the girls, and very easy to have around. He's about 15 pounds and, as you can tell, Abbie is just in love (Emily is too, for that matter).
Abbie has done a great job taking care of him. She takes him on tons of walks (even in the pouring rain), and gives him lots of attention. He has been good for the whole family. I think that Chad and I are also getting more exercise with him around. I don't know if it is his social nature, or if he is afraid of abandonment, but he stays right with us in the house. He does it in such a way that he isn't right under foot, though, so he is never a nuisance. He's smart about things like that. I can't imagine why someone gave him up (the shelter claimed that it was due to allergies), but their loss is our gain, for sure.

Other than this big event, the summer has been rolling along as it always does - Abbie has been attending her summer camps, practicing her violin, and doing some swimming. This week is Art camp, which she has done before. Next week, she is off all week and we are going to do a staycation, hopefully getting some projects done around the house. Then, after 4th of July week, she will do a month of mornings at Montessori and afternoons in a variety of nature camps (which are new this year).
