One Year Anniversary

I believe that yesterday was the one year anniversary of the last time that we ate out at a restaurant. We were on our way to Colorado for skiing and went out for dinner. The restaurant was full of people and very lively. We knew that COVID-19 was in the U.S. and we were a little bit nervous about being in a restaurant, but we had no idea that it was going to be a year before it happened again.

By random chance, last night was a good night to venture out for our first dining experience since that night in Colorado. It was warm and very windy so Chad proposed that we try the outdoor seating at In-N-Out burger. Given that he is fully vaccinated and sporting an N-95, the risk of sending him inside to order seemed pretty low. Emily started out super excited, but was quickly grossed out by how dirty things seem in the outside world. Abbie was initially hesitant, but ultimately decided that she enjoyed the adventure. Of course, I was trying to get a photo of the big event and I kept telling the girls to "smile" but there isn't much point when they have masks on.

As for other updates, it has been just over a month since Abbie opened her business. She has made some cute product descriptions on her website: https://lusterbyliz.com/ They are definitely reminiscent of something that Elaine Benes might write for the J. Peterman catalog. :) She has had some earring sales, but so far no sales of the eyeshadow palettes.

Also an update on Stanford Online High School -- Abbie was not accepted. I think she was a little bit disappointed, but she got over it pretty quickly. It definitely makes life easier in that we don't have to make a choice between that and her current school for the fall. If she really wanted to, she could apply again next year, but my guess is that she'll probably decide not to.

So, what's next? Well, both girls have Spring Break this coming week and the weather looks like it will be decent, so hopefully there will be a fair bit of outside time. I also ordered Abbie a copy of Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, which should be arriving tomorrow, so I expect that there will be some reading next week, too. It is one of my all time favorite books and is set in the time of a global pandemic, so it definitely seems relevant. Originally, her school was going to choose it as their common reading for the year, but once COVID hit, they decided that maybe it would be best to choose something else - ha! Anyway, hopefully she will enjoy it as much as I did.
