Orchestra Concert

(from the school newsletter)

It is hard to believe it, but over a month has flown by since the last update. Abbie has been busy with the school routine, and every week is the seemingly endless cycle of homework, orchestra rehearsal, violin lessons, sports class, etc. As we move into the next month, there will be some variations in the routine. On Halloween, Abbie's class will host a Fall Festival for the other kids at school, and Abbie has signed up to be one of the face painters again this year. In the evening, of course, there will be the usual block party and trick-or-treating. Coming up soon is also the fall parent-teacher conference, and the girls' annual well-child visits with the doctor. I am sure that all of that will give me some news to report.

In the meantime, the one big event that we have had is Abbie's first official concert with the orchestra. This was on the 18th and included performances by a Suzuki group, the Junior String Orchestra, the String Orchestra (Abbie's group), and Evan Mitchell (a Van Cliburn competitor).
It was a great concert, but also made for a very long Tuesday, as the concert ran until at least 8:30pm. Here is Abbie with a few of her fellow violinists before the performance. They are a sweet group. Also, for those of you who are interested, I filmed each of the pieces that the String Orchestra played. Unfortunately, Abbie was sort of in the middle of the group, surrounded by tall people, so you won't actually be able to see her, but it will give you a sense of the sort of material that they have been working on and the size of the group.

With the Fall performance behind them, they have now started on two new pieces, which they will play at the Winter concert in December.
