Never a dull moment

We have been so busy this spring with all sorts of activities. We brought Fluffy home this past weekend, and I'm not sure if you can tell or not, but this little guy isn't so little anymore. Apparently, when Kindergarteners spend an entire school year shoving carrots in your mouth every chance they get, you tend to put on some weight. I was just shocked when I saw this noticeably larger guinea pig! We have agreed to keep him for 2 weeks this summer. Hopefully he will still fit in his cage by then.

We were able to enjoy a little local culture during April by spending a morning in the Stockyards. Abbie got all dressed up for the occasion and got a number of complements on her outfit from random strangers. She definitely looks like a sassy western girl. She was able to do a horse ride and we got to see the cowboys run the cattle through the streets. Some of these longhorns literally have really long horns - as much as 6 feet from end to end. They were cool to see, but I was expecting some sort of wild stampede. Instead, it was more of a leisurely walk. Just as well, I suppose.

The kids in Kindergarten performed "The Elephant's Child" (a Rudyard Kipling story) as their spring play. Abbie was the ostrich, which apparently was one of the larger parts in the play. Being the terrible mother that I am, I just assumed that she was AN ostrich, not THE ostrich, and didn't go to see the show. Fortunately, Chad and Emily went, and we can order a DVD so that I will get to see it eventually.

I just had to throw in this picture of Abbie working on her homework in the office. She just looks so mature and so official - like a little CFO or something.

Finally, last weekend was Abbie's ballet recital. Having learned my lesson from missing the Spring Play, I made sure to be there. It was a really beautiful show and the girls all looked great. We recorded her part, and soon I will post it to the blog. Chad and Emily went too, and I think Emily really liked seeing her big sister up on stage.
