School News

Abbie has been having a really great time at school.  It is a busy schedule and she is tired at the end of the day, but we have seen an incredible improvement in her mood since she started JK.  She wakes up happy every morning, comes home happy, and is just more fun to be around.  It seems like she is really thriving with the additional structure.

Last week they had their first library class and were allowed to check out a book to bring home.  Abbie chose Traction Man Meets Turbodog and we read it every night until she returned it yesterday.  The book that she has checked out this week is Cinderella.  Nothing better than a princess story, you know.

The City Ballet offers ballet classes after school on Friday afternoons, so we signed Abbie up.  She is really excited about it.  Tomorrow is her first class and she has been thinking about it all week.  Last weekend we went and got her set up with her leotard, tights, and slippers.  She tried them on and I think she looks great!

Tomorrow is the first dress down day of the year, which means no uniforms.  Also, it is the first BBQ of the year.  They do a BBQ for lunch approximately once a month and the families are invited to come eat with the kids.  Chad and I are looking forward to checking it out.  The food that this place serves is really impressive.

First day of Junior Kindergarten

Here is Abbie all dressed up and ready to go to school this morning.  She was pretty excited, but we had to wake her up earlier than she is used to this morning, so I suspect that she will be pretty exhausted tonight.
Here she is with her teacher, Mrs. Butler, who is really great - energetic, loving, well-educated, and totally fun.  She has been teaching since 1976 (before I was born) and has taught in the US, Japan and S. Korea, which is really cool.
Here are some of the kids just as the class was starting.  You can see Mrs. Butler, and her aide, Miss Ashton in the background.  There are 16 kids per class.  They have Spanish classes 5 days per week, P.E. twice a week, music class twice a week, and movement, technology, drama, and library classes each once a week.  We are definitely looking forward to seeing how much she will learn!

Check it out!

Other than that, the big event around here is that tomorrow is Abbie's last day at preschool.  Next Wednesday she starts Junior Kindergarten at a really great place.  She is really excited but I think she also has some anxiety about it.  Over the course of the summer she has attended three play dates that have given her the chance to meet a number of the kids in her class.  She has also met her teacher a couple of times and has had the opportunity to tour her classroom.  The teacher is incredible and the people are nice (although kids will always be kids), so I think she will do great.  However, the fear of the unknown is still getting to her a bit.  Stay tuned for pictures of Abbie on her first day, etc.
