Prom 2023, but that's just the tip of the iceberg!
It has been a few weeks since the big event, but Abbie had a great
time at Prom this year. The weather was perfect, so we were able to get
great photos before the event. She and her date went to a hibachi
restaurant before the dance, then the dance, and then to an after party
at a classmate's house. All in all, I think they had a great time!
Abbie continues to have multiple opportunities to dress up (besides just prom), as we recently had her induction into Cum Laude Society. Here she is with the other seven juniors that were inducted this year:
It was a nice event. The entire high school attended the ceremony and then there was a lunch for the families afterwards.
We also continue to celebrate Abbie's photography work. There was a show at her school this past week where she got to display some of her photos:
Some of the photos were in the Black and White photo contest from a couple months ago (although this time they were in color), some relate to her AP Photography project (which is coming due very soon), and some were just cool ones that I hadn't seen before. I really liked this photo of grapes, and again, Abbie laughed at my need to take a photo of a photo when she could just as easily send me the original:
Tonight we will attend another fine arts award ceremony where Abbie is being recognized for her photo 'Up.' This is the one that she took of Emily and Laila that appeared in the Black and White exhibit (see the post from February 9, 2023). We will see if she wins any additional awards tonight, but even if she doesn't, I think she receives $50 just for being a finalist. Seems like a far easier way to earn money than a shift at Einstein Bagels. LOL.
Speaking of Einstein Bagels, Abbie continues to work from 7am to 1pm pretty much every Saturday and Sunday. She invited me to go through the drive-thru one day when she was working the window so I was able to get an even better photo than I had before:
She looks very official! :)
Hard to believe, but the school year is quickly coming to a close. Not only is AP Photo due soon, but her AP exams in Chemistry, Literature, and US History are all coming up during the first week in May. Once those are out of the way, she will just have final exams in math and physics left to contend with.
As for summer, the plans are slowly taking shape. Among other things, Abbie will spend two weeks in NYC attending a journalism course through the School of the New York Times. The topic of the course is "Climate change in the news: Reporting on the environment" and students will produce multiple journalism pieces, which could include an article, op-ed, product review, or investigative piece. I'm curious to see what she comes up with!
