Testing Abounds

I can't imagine someone taking more tests in such a short period of time than what Abbie has taken this fall. As I mentioned in my last post, there was the PSAT and ACT in October and the SAT in November. Then, there have been multiple Covid tests sprinkled through the past six weeks. Emily brought us Covid just after Halloween and right before the SAT. Abbie wasn't feeling well, but kept testing negative. Even the day before the exam, she was negative. She decided to gut through the SAT even though she was sick. Of course, the afternoon after her exam, she finally got a positive Covid test, which resulted in a week away from school.

Ready for the concert

The timing was good, though, because she was able to recover and be germ free just before a long-planned visit with Eleanor. For the first time, Eleanor drove herself down to our house and spent the weekend. All other visits up to this point have required parental driving involvement. It was great for Eleanor to have her car here so that the girls could just come and go as they pleased. Part of the excitement was going to a concert with a group of friends. I was more than happy to let them drive themselves home afterwards!

Of course, there has been more Covid testing in the days that followed. Abbie spent four nights at a Student Diversity Leadership Conference just after Thanksgiving. It was organized through her school, so a small group of students and teachers made the six hour drive on a small bus together.

Yay for Starbucks at SDLC

I think she enjoyed the conference and will try to attend again next year. That said, a couple of the kids tested positive shortly after they returned. I think Abbie's recent infection provided her some needed immunity because she has had no symptoms and her most recent test came back negative.

Looking happy at SDLC

Speaking of test results, we now have results on all of the standardized tests. Abbie rocked the ACT and the SAT (even with Covid), but did not have a good enough day on the PSAT to qualify for National Merit (although I suspect that she will receive commendations). All in all a very successful testing season and she is thrilled to have it behind her.

One test that Abbie did not manage to take was her road test. We signed up for a date, but then at the 11th hour she realized that there are probably 30 more hours of instructional videos that she needs to watch before she can get the proper paperwork for the road test. Not to be deterred, we showed up to her appointment anyway, with Abbie sort of hoping that the instructor wouldn't notice the missing forms. No such luck - LOL. So, that is the one test that remains on the 'to do' list.

Also, on the 'to do' list are her midterm exams. Before she finishes this week, Abbie will need to gut through exams in AP Lit, AP Chem, AP US History, Honors Math, and Honors Physics. As you can imagine, she will be more than ready for her two-week break!
