Back to School
This was Abbie's first week back to school, as in, actually back to school. In person. It was a change that I think she was both looking forward to and also dreading. There are benefits to online classes, but being stuck at home with your parents all day is not one of them. There are also benefits to in-person classes, but dealing with your peers is not one of them. LOL.
The French camp that she volunteered at before school started was a good way to ease back in to the idea of being on campus and she did really well with it. That said, she also claims that the first few days of school felt like she was stepping into someone else's life - all very surreal.
Back to wearing a uniform |
Her school is requiring masks and she has a solid stock of N95s at her disposal. So far, she seems to be managing it pretty well. Staying out of the cafeteria is one of the biggest goals, as there are no masks during lunch. So, she has been packing a lunch every day and finding someplace outside to eat. As the weather turns colder, she will likely take her lunch into the library.
Other than masks, there are no additional COVID protocols, so life is rolling along as usual. She has a standard 10th grade schedule - English (with a teacher from last year that she really likes), Honors Chemistry, Honors Math, Honors French (also with a teacher that she had last year), Civics, and Photography (also with a teacher that she had last year). In the Spring she will pick up a Psychology elective, which I think she will like.
Sporting her new plants and her N95 |
Other sources of excitement include a surprise visit from her friend Eleanor a couple of weeks ago, a few bike trips up to Starbucks, a trip to the plant store to cash in her birthday gift card, and a trip to the grocery store. This weekend is back to the usual routine of working on homework - bleh. However, she does have plans to meet a friend outside at Starbucks tomorrow morning, so that will be a treat.
