An Oldie but a Goodie
This adorable photo of Abbie (taken by Grandma P.) is from July when we were still in San Diego. I didn't realize that I hadn't posted it before. She was helping Daddy in the kitchen as his sous chef and sporting the adorable apron that Nick and Lucia gave her for Christmas last year. She loves to be sous chef and is learning all sorts of good stuff about cooking, measuring, etc. In fact, we have decided that one of her Christmas gifts this year will be her very own chef's coat, embroidered with her name.
Something that never gets old is Abbie's quick wit. One night, at a restaurant for dinner, she burped, mouth wide open and then said "excuse me." We chided her for not burping with her mouth closed. She seemed kind of baffled. Then I realized, that we had always emphasized the "excuse me" part, but nothing else, so in her mind she was "getting in trouble" but had done everything right. Once I realized this, I agreed with her that it was our fault for not having emphasized the mouth closed thing before. She agreed with this and replied, "Yup, life is all about assigning blame on your parents." So true. Sigh.
This past weekend she decided to tease Daddy and was able to match him step for step. It went something like this:
Abbie says, "I just LOVE the Green Bay Packers!" (knowing that, as a Vikings fan, this gets under Daddy's skin)
Daddy says, "Stop, that's not funny."
Abbie says, "Oh, yes, the Packers are just the best team ever. I love the Packers!"
Daddy says, "You know how I joke with you sometimes and you tell me to stop because you don't like it? Well this is the same thing."
Abbie says, "That's because your jokes aren't funny"
Daddy says, "Well, this joke isn't funny either."
Abbie says, "Well, I'm not joking."
And round and round it goes. All the time I am just laughing because she is just so quick on her feet and is clearly running circles around Chad.
