Spirit

This week is spirit week at Abbie's school (Saturday is Homecoming).  The kids are allowed to dress down (i.e., no uniforms) as long as they are wearing the school colors or logo.  So, here is our little Abbie showing her school spirit this morning.  Abbie has always been a spirited girl, and also a great little talker, which produces some unforgettable quotes.  Here are some of her recent ones:

One night at dinner I was reminiscing with Chad about a house that I lived in while in college.  Abbie asked if I was talking about our old house.  I said that, no, I was talking about a house that I lived in with roommates.  She replied, "You lived with mermaids?"  Apparently she wasn't familiar with the term "roommate" and went with the next closest thing in her brain.  She seemed pretty intrigued until I explained that roommates are just other people, not mermaids.

One day in the car Chad was explaining how airplanes are able to land at the airport.  He told her that the planes have instruments that help them land.  She replied, "Guitars help them land?!?"  Of course, up until that point she was only familiar with musical instruments.

The other day Paula was reading Abbie and Emily the book, "Are You My Mother?" It is about a baby bird that hatches from an egg and goes looking for his mother.  When they got done Abbie declared that when she grew up she was going to turn the story into a song and make it her wedding song.  Paula just cracked up.

Pets and Pancakes

Lots of fun stuff going on at school recently.  Last Saturday was the pancake breakfast.  The dads helped make pancakes and serve everybody.  The kids, siblings, and moms got to enjoy pancakes and then the kids went out to play on the playground.  The weather was perfect and everyone had lots of fun.
Then, yesterday was pet day.  For the JK students this meant that they were able to bring a stuffed animal to school.  For the older kids, it meant that they could actually bring their pet, so there were lots of bunnies, and turtles, and dogs, etc. for all the kids to look at.
Of all the stuffed animals that Abbie could have brought to school she chose this little guy.  She told me that he was a toddler and that she needed to take care of him while he was at school with her.  All the kids got an award for their animal.  Abbie's was "Best Brown Bear".

Next Friday, the adults get to have some fun as there is a parents-only mixer for all JK parents.  Sounds like fun to me!
